Heidelberger Druckmaschinen Aktie

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen shares fell sharply, shedding nearly 5 percent to trade around €1.64, after the German printing press manufacturer issued a profit warning. The company now anticipates its adjusted EBITDA margin for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, will be approximately 6.6 percent, missing its own target of improving upon the prior year's 7.1 percent.

Management pointed to a confluence of factors for the shortfall. A significant trigger was the outbreak of conflict involving Iran on February 28, 2026, which abruptly dampened customer investment appetite in the crucial final month of the fiscal year. This was compounded by an unfavorable product mix in the fourth quarter and persistent currency headwinds. While the revenue target was met on a currency-adjusted basis and order intake followed the trend of previous quarters, the margin took the hit.

Simultaneously, the company is navigating a costly strategic expansion. Its defense subsidiary, HD Advanced Technologies (HDAT), has officially launched the joint venture ONBERG Autonomous Systems with American-Israeli partner Ondas. The venture, which began operational activities on April 14, 2026, is focused on integrated drone defense systems for critical infrastructure. The high-profile launch in Brandenburg an der Havel, attended by regional political figures, underscored its strategic importance. The venture aims to serve a tangible market, with around 2,000 facilities in Germany falling under new critical infrastructure protection laws.

However, the upfront investment for this new business line is pressuring profitability. Accelerated start-up costs for ONBERG are cited as a direct factor weighing on the group's margin for the past fiscal year. Analysts note that until ONBERG transitions from demonstrations to generating measurable revenue, margin weakness will remain a dominant concern for the stock.

The market's reaction was also influenced by technical factors, with the share price decline pushing it below the 200-day moving average around €1.84, a bearish signal for some traders. Warburg Research maintained its "Hold" rating on the equity, acknowledging the company's strategic direction but highlighting heightened risks from the volatile geopolitical environment.

Amid the financial setback, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen's leadership appears stable. The supervisory board recently extended the contracts of CEO Jürgen Otto until July 2029 and CSO Dr. David Schmedding until June 2031. All eyes are now on June 10, 2026, when the company will publish its final, audited annual results. This release will confirm whether the preliminary 6.6 percent margin stands and may offer clearer insight into the financial impact of the defense venture's launch phase.
