Rocket Lab USA is deepening its role as a supplier to U.S. national security initiatives. The company's recent strategic acquisition and unveiling of new space-grade technology underscore a dual focus on defense programs and next-generation orbital infrastructure, building on momentum from recent successful hypersonic tests.
Record Revenue Amidst Ongoing Challenges
Financially, Rocket Lab reported record annual revenue of $602 million for 2025, supported by a substantial backlog of orders totaling $1.85 billion. Despite this top-line growth, the company has not yet achieved profitability. Investors are also monitoring a revised timeline for its larger Neutron rocket; the inaugural launch is now scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. This delay follows a test anomaly attributed to a manufacturing defect.
Acquisition Secures Critical Defense Supply Chains
A key step in its strategic positioning is the completed purchase of Optical Support, Inc. (OSI). This transaction brings Rocket Lab a team of 20 experienced personnel and approximately 2,000 square meters of specialized facilities dedicated to the processing, testing, and integration of sensitive components. The move is a clear play for vertical integration, aimed at securing critical supply chains for national security space programs.
OSI's integration is seamless, given its existing relationship as a supplier to Geost, a developer of electro-optical sensor systems that Rocket Lab acquired in 2025. This latest deal is designed to bolster support for key defense initiatives, including the Space Development Agency's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.
New Solar Technology Targets Orbital Data Centers
Beyond defense, Rocket Lab is expanding its capabilities in space infrastructure. The company has introduced a new generation of silicon solar cells specifically engineered for the power demands of large-scale orbital data centers and mega-constellations. This development represents a strategic addition to its launch business, positioning the firm as a hardware provider for the coming wave of advanced orbital infrastructure.
Hypersonic Success Builds Momentum
These corporate developments follow a successful hypersonic test flight conducted for the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit on February 27. This mission marked the second such test within a three-month period and the seventh flight overall of the company's HASTE rocket, maintaining a 100 percent success rate for the vehicle.
