I downloaded it over the weekend after buying a small parcel of shares. I wanted to check the service out myself as I am a big consumer of VOIP based services. World Phone provided 10 mins of free calls, and I used up 2.5 mins of it. In that 2.5 minutes, it convinced me to buy more today. My review of the call?
- Crystal clear, like me dialing directly using a Telstra line. Much better than Skype and other VOIP apps as there was zero lag.
- The in app purchase model is brilliant. It makes it convenient to top up.
- Pricing is still somewhat high, but I believe their target market is the corporate area which currently pays premium rates for roaming. At 69.99 per month unlimited, it's peanuts for travelling execs as long as their service is 99.9% reliable.
I've also just been informed roaming charges in China and Chinese travellers going out is EXTREMELY expensive. If World Phone can tap into the Chinese market via Android, and who knows, get in bed with a company like Huawei or Xiaomi, then sky's the limit.
