Focus Media Holding Limited’s (Focus Media) ADR has achieved our target price of US$8.14. We believe the price appreciation has been driven by fundamental factors outlined in our update report and news reports indicating that the company’s deal to sell the core digital out-of-home advertising business to Sina Corporation is to be completed by the end of June 2009. As the current price no longer supports a BUY rating, we are downgrading the fundamental stock rating from a BUY to a HOLD. We will reassess our rating for the ADR stock after the company announces its 1Q 09 results in May 2009. We now anticipate a significant negative currency impact on the European stock in the medium to long term and expect to revert to a 6-24 month horizon to value the company. Accordingly, we expect to significantly reduce our European stock target price, and although the current target price does not support a SELL rating, we downgrade the European stock to a SELL at current price levels.

As Savannah strives to attract visitors in this down economy, tourism leaders hope a new tool will help visitors tap into all the city has to offer.

Savannah had a record 6.6 million visitors in 2007. Those visitors spent an estimated $1.9 billion locally.

Numbers continued strong in 2008, but the Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau says tourism is down about 10 percent from the same time last year.

Tourists this summer will find new touchscreen machines in several locations throughout the city to showcase all that Savannah has to offer travelers. The concept of an information kiosk is not new, but this kiosk is specially designed for Savannah by a local company. They’re called Tourist Assistant Portals—or TAP systems.  

Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau President Joseph Marinelli says the CVB and Blue Focus Media have been working on them for about 8 months.

“It really blends the best of Savannah’s tourism offerings with the latest technology. These touch screen kiosks will give people the opportunity to determine where they’re going to have lunch, where they’re going to have dinner, what attractions that they’re interested in visiting, how to get there,“ said Marinelli.

The TAP systems give you the option of viewing a map of downtown historic attractions. You can use your fingers to move the map image around.

You can search hotel and restaurant information. After a user finds information they want, they can send the information straight to their cell phone via text message.

Those who got a chance to see them in action were impressed.

“I really think it’ll help people understand the depth of activities that are available in Savannah and help them choose to do some things that they may not have been aware of, like the calendar of events,“ said Tom Baldacci.

The CVB is starting out with five TAP systems in various locations throughout town but there could be more in the future.  

“Just a matter of how popular they are, how much traffic we get, how many advertisers support it, and I hope we have 5 times that many some day,“ said Marinelli.

The CVB and Blue Focus Media hope to have these TAP units in place by July 1. They’ll be placed in the Savannah airport, the Trade and Convention Center, City Market, City Hall, and the CVB office on Bay Street.  They’ll eventually be placed in visitors centers around the city.

Local businesses will be able to buy advertising space, and they’ll be able to track how many visitors look at their ad.

....wenn das so weitergeht. Die Sina - Aktie ist gestern ja nun ordentlich im Kurs gestiegen. Das soll insbesondere die Focus-Media-Aktionäre freuen, denen ja noch für das erste Halbjahr 2009 eine Dividendenausschüttung in Form von Sina-Aktien in Aussicht gestellt wurde. Auch der Kurs der Focus-Media-Aktie zeigt seit Wochen gen Norden.

New York (aktiencheck.de AG) - Die Analysten von Pali Capital stufen die Aktie von Focus Media (Profil) unverändert mit "buy" ein. Das Kursziel werde von 9,50 auf 10,30 USD angehoben. (04.06.2009/ac/a/u)

.........sagt mir, dass der Sina - Deal laufen wird.

....erwarte ich hier. Der Kurs hat die letzten Tage schon nett angezogen. Denn sollte der Bewertungsabschlag der letzten Monate gäntlich abgebaut werden, dann ist hier einiges zu erwarten. Mal ganz abgesehen von der Extradividente in Form von Sina-Aktien, die ja auch noch zu erwarten ist.

Bin,wie vermutlich andere auch durch den ,Aktionär, geködert worden.Hab den Artikel so verstanden,
Focus gibt Videowerbetafeln an Sina ab,und erhält dafür kein Cash,sondern 47 Mille Sina Aktien.Die werden dann an Focus Aktionäre verteilt,da ja auch Eigentum der Aktionäre versilbert wurde.Also befinden sich doch die Sina Aktien bereits im Besitz von Focus,oder?Vielleicht kann mir jemand weiterhelfen.

Focus Media's China Profit Plummets As It Ceases LCD Ad Business, Sinks Shanghai Ad Boat

Months after announcing that its once-lucrative LCD display advertising business was being sold to Chinese Internet firm Sina.com, Focus Media Holding Limited ahs announced its unaudited financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2009.

On December 22, 2008, Focus Media announced that it entered into a definitive agreement with Sina Corporation to sell substantially all of the assets of Focus Media's digital out-of-home advertising networks, including the LCD display network, poster frame network and certain in-store networks.

Net revenue for continuing operations, which do not include the assets and businesses being sold to Sina.com, was USD66.7 million, declining 24% from USD87.2 million for the fourth quarter of 2008 and declining 14% from USD78.0 million for the first quarter of 2008. Net revenue for discontinued operations, which correspond only to the businesses being sold to Sina.com, was USD64.4 million, a sequential decrease of 39% from USD104.9 million for the fourth quarter of 2008 and decrease of 23% from USD83.6 million for the first quarter of 2008 and slightly below the company's previous guidance of no less than USD65.7 million.

Sina's acquisition of Focus Media may fail

Jul. 20, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Web portal operator Sina Corpmay be blocked from acquiring Focus Media, a leading outdoor advertising firm, due to anti-monopoly concerns, Reuters reported.

China's Ministry of Commerce is saying the application for the merger is incomplete and that the proposed deal fails to meet the standards set out in China's anti-monopoly act.

In February, Sina submitted an application to the Ministry of Commerce to buy US$1.37 billion worth of the core assets of Focus Media. The two companies later provided supplementary information on four occasions after the initial filing, the ministry said.

Both companies recently said that they would provide more information and are preparing additional documents as the ministry has requested.

The MOC says it is conducting procedures according to the law.

Some industry analysts believe the deal may never be approved as the ministry may be delaying the merger for political reasons rather than economic ones.

On Dec. 22, Sina announced that it would acquire Focus Media's LCD, elevator publicity and supermarket advertising businesses through the issuance of 47 million new shares.

FMCN: The Olympus of China

Muddy Waters rates Focus Media Holding Ltd. (NASDAQ: FMCN) shares a Strong Sell because of significant overstatement of the number of screens in its LCD network and its Olympus-style acquisition overpayments. The $1.1 billion1 in write-downs from its acquisitions exceed one-third of FMCN’s enterprise value, making FMCN’s acquisitive behavior more destructive than Olympus’s to shareholder value. FMCN insiders have sold at least $1.7 billion worth of stock (two-thirds of FMCN’s enterprise value) since FMCN’s IPO. 2 At the same time, the insiders and their business associates further enrich themselves by trading in FMCN assets, while costing FMCN shareholders substantial sums of money.
FMCN has been fraudulently overstating the number of screens in its LCD network by approximately 50%. This is similar to China MediaExpress Holdings, Inc. (OTC: CCME), which we reported is a fraud on February 3, 2011.  We therefore question whether FMCN’s core LCD business is viable.
Like Olympus, FMCN is significantly and deliberately overpaying for acquisitions, writing down $1.1 billion out of $1.6 billion in acquisitions since 2005. These write-downs are equivalent to one-third of FMCN’s present enterprise value.
Our research shows that FMCN has claimed to acquire, write down, and dispose of companies that it never actually purchased.  Investors should be concerned about to where cash actually moved in these transactions, and about the integrity of reported results.
FMCN has written at least 21 acquisitions down to zero and then given them away for no consideration.  We show that many of these write-downs are not justified. There are several possible nefarious reasons FMCN gives acquisitions away, including doing so may put FMCN’s problems beyond the reach of auditors.
Insiders have used FMCN as their counterparty in trading in and out of FMCN subsidiary Allyes, with several individuals earning a total of at least $70.1 million, while shareholders lost $159.6 million.
Sales of FMCN shares by insiders have netted them at least $1.7 billion since FMCN went public in 2005.
