Fashion Company Tommy Hilfiger Corp. Is Reportedly Making Plans to Put Itself on the Auction Block 


NEW YORK (AP) -- Fashion company Tommy Hilfiger Corp., aiming to expand its business, is making plans to put itself on the auction block, according to a published report.
Shares of the company soared on the news.
 
According to industry newspaper Women's Wear Daily, the Hong Kong-based company is being shopped around to potential buyers, and the asking price is at least $1.82 billion, though it could get as much as $2.16 billion. The report credited a source specializing in mergers and acquisitions. The company hired JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. as its investment adviser, according to the report.

Tommy Hilfiger officials could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
