Trump Pledges To Leave Business To Focus On Presidency
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Amid concerns about potential conflicts of interest, President-elect Donald Trump has indicated that he plans to leave his business empire in order to focus on running the country.
Trump made a series of posts to Twitter on Wednesday suggesting he would unveil the details of his plan to step back from his business in a press conference on December 15th.
"I will be holding a major news conference in New York City with my children on December 15 to discuss the fact that I will be leaving my great business in total in order to fully focus on running the country in order to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump tweeted.
He added, "While I am not mandated to do this under the law, I feel it is visually important, as President, to in no way have a conflict of interest with my various businesses."
Trump said legal documents are being crafted that would take him completely out of business operations, calling the presidency a far more important task.
The president-elect has previously indicated he would hand over control of his company to his adult children rather than turning his assets over to a blind trust as other modern presidents have done.
