Portugal Q3 Economic Growth Unrevised
LISBON (dpa-AFX) - Portugal's economic growth improved as initially estimated in the three months ended September, latest figures from Statistics Portugal showed Wednesday.
Gross domestic product rose 1.6 percent year-over-year in the third quarter, confirming the preliminary data published on November 15. It was also faster than the 0.9 percent gain in the second quarter.
Moreover, the latest GDP growth equaled that from the third quarter of last year. A figure higher than this was seen in the first and second quarters of 2015, at 1.7 percent.
The higher GDP growth mainly reflected the increase of net external demand, moving from 0.1 percentage points in the second quarter to 0.7 percent in the third quarter.
Exports of goods and services registered a significantly higher acceleration than imports of goods and services, the agency said.
On a quarterly basis, the economy expanded at a faster pace of 0.8 percent in the three-month period to September, following a 0.3 percent rise in the preceding quarter.
